March Madness

Normally this refers to Basketball,
which involves a tournament.
There are reasons Sarah Palin is not in the running.
She is only in the change game.
And that is a shame.

Simply put: Put up or shut up!
Get in the Republican race and you can have your debate.
And I don't mean Hillary or Katie*.
Meanwhile, Sarah Palin might do well to find out what a debate entails.
Even Comedy Central or MSNBC, should not be considered as early round qualifiers for the Final Four.**

* The Colbert Report or No Labels is not the shame, but Olympia Snow did come up. Being an enemy does not make you a candidate or a debater, let alone a journalist.
**Who would compete in this evolution?[i.e. Who would stoop to taking Sarah Palin serious let alone qualified to debate. Not that that would qualify her to advance to a final debate round. There was so much C-rap here, I thought I would d'ribble the punch line. Wouldn't we love Palin to actually debate*** someone of her watch-ama gotcha?]
[But speaking of tournaments, I don't think the Raw Money Class wants to be facing Obama anytime too soon.]

*** Buddy Roemer has left the building. Not to mention Gary Johnson.(C-Hillary Link*/see "actually debate" links.)

The %th EleFont

Not to jump in the Lakoff, but my original heading was The %th Element*.  Which was a type-oh or capital gain on taking the 5th. Well, not that far.(But maybe we will see.) The 5th Element was meant as reference to Roman numeral "v" for the sake of my table ofor con tents. But it is still to be determined what page this is.

So with this lede or misspell, it may be prophetic GeOhMeTry. i.e. Seg  Way to my original intents.

Who got the memo?

Who reads the script?
LO and behold, I am See Sic again.
The memo, the apology,
and The View?
Apparently FOX has acknowledged some mistakes in the Shirley Sherrod ordeal, while Beck apparently is not too up with FOX*, and Lawrence O'Donnell of Countdown still can't see**. At least when it comes to why Obama appeared on the view.

* the Dean disconnect
[links in progress***]
** link added 7-30-10 Don't get me wrong, no one on MSNBC is anywhere near, a Beck, O'Reilly or any FOX character. Even with stand ins for vacationing hosts, they have more character. But LO in particular was using a rhetorical ploy in his question to why the President would go on The View, while FOX still is on the hook for the Breitbart backtrack. It is my opinion, no one on FOX which includes Sarah Palin has any cred in wondering why, let alone criticizing, from their "gotcha journalism" perspective. And just how should Palin supporters react to her celebrating Shakespeare, who was English, and a living language, in view of the original intenders of the constitution? To be fair, making up new words, American or not, is not the same, as not being able to use or let old ones live. It is however a knew cents of stringing too words to gather.

*** I think I have capped things with "The memo" link, while "the script" link was a crack at Beck's interpretation of himself, let alone biblical error. The context or con text being everything in my View. Speaking of which, there was no memo.

Recent Letters.

To Local Papers Not Printed Yet:

What Democracy Looks Like? [9-10-08]

The Joel Connelly piece "Obama takes the 'low drama' approach" certainly contrasts his campaign with McCain's. It shows the value of community organizing while McCain/Palin seem to knock heads together and too few roll, unless you don‘t "contribute" to their cause. But I quibble with his claim, Obama has "left the right wing smear machine so bereft of material that Swift Boaters of 2008 have been forced to concoct stories." That is "not exactly"-"change you can believe in".

Real change would be if the Swift Boaters could be remembered for the courageous vets their name high-jacked and if they could ever tell the truth. My concocted label for the difference is "Flip-Flopper Crafters"- us and them. One might call this campaign, "Burger Wars": Wendy’s vs. Burger King or "Where’s the beef?" vs. "Home of the Whopper." No con-notation intended, but it has leaked that the Republican Convention was not about issues, but a "composite view". Irony of ironies, the Big Mac lacks the "special sauce" of nuance and straight forwardness, let alone any ingredients of the Bull-Moose Party or Teddy Roosevelt.

Who Gets It? Oh, Right. [9-13-08]

Let’s get this straight. Palin jokes in her acceptance speech: What is the difference between a pit bull and a hockey mom? Answer: lipstick Who got up in arms about that remark? I guess it is not a sexist joke if a woman (and hockey mom) says it. Am I applying too much meaning here, like lipstick. Oops, did that cross a line? I don’t worry about pit bulls, or at least their feelings. I wonder if hockey moms are proud of the comparison? Taking offense at Obama‘s use of "like putting lipstick on a pig" seems to be far fetched in comparison. Especially, when McCain has used it so many times, and seems to have a leash on it. You know? The phrase that is. I don’t know about pigs or pit bulls, but issues and attack dogs? (a leash that is) Do we really need a vet? Apparently the media needs one. A closer look that is.

Oh and what is the difference between Sarah Palin and a Neo Con? I don’t think it is lipstick. Apologies to Neo Cons, but they are proud of her. I wonder what the lipstick feels. Oh, and just what did the Palin nomination, do for the ticket? A new leash on life, or at least meanings. And let me vet myself here; McCain's excuse for all this? "...this is a tough campaign." I think he has smeared his own makeup, let alone "change". And speaking of taking offense, no use of the term "vet" here, disrespects anyone's service, I am sure both the military and the medical are tougher than that, while the media needs to get a grip.

Looking back.

[The Arizona Tragedy]
The last link, Awkword! includes three links which I have yet to really comment on: the previous awkward link, Morning Joe on Sarah Palin's "reprehensible" video and President Obama's Arizona memorial speech.

There is much more work to do for this to be a "teachable moment", but there is no denying that making it a teachable moment is a political act, at least by those that are working to make it a teachable moment. Of course there will be deniers of both. (Editor's note: I walked this back a bit but still feel it is left a bit circular in logic. Why do I imagine DNA and RNA?)

Running Joke

Guilt by association, innocent my label.
Well rather*, she runs...innocent by no association with reality.

Upon first hearing of the Christine O'Donnell victory, my first reaction was hmmm, a new and improved Sarah Palin. But in all actuality, for an English major? She is rather loose with her labels. She attended Phoenix Institute which rented space at an Oxford campus, and she attended Claremont Instute which she labeled "Claremont Graduate University". And apparently her English major might be actually English Literature, but she may have made up for any deficiencies. Her employment record seems to be heavily reliant on her academic studies[**], not that she has recorded much income or communicated clearly. But if it was not her who communicated these errors, just who was paid to commit them? My point is...that problem is solved.
[Bottom line: She studied Constitutional Government under a graduate fellowship at a conservative think tank. QED: by degree in lipstick.]

* original paraphrase: Some run with "Guilt by association, but are guilty of (& innocent by) no association with reality". (But I often evolve mid-sentence, or mid-their revolution.)

The Randslide?

I believe I must credit Sarah Palin for using this term. But Rand Paul must credit Rachel Maddow for giving him an even hand.

The Pre-Midterm Mandate: The Ed Effect Sometimes the Democrats ask too little.* I second Ed. And Stephanie Miller. Not to mention TeaParty of the Left?

There is a theory out there that slips my mind now, but if I have not recrafted it, mine is that the Republicans run down government and Democrats have an up hill battle.** Actually I just sharpened it a bit. But economically*** it is a serious theory, if you look at each of the past Democratic Presidents since Eisenhower. Each administration has had a lot to recover from, and have been progressively less timid in addressing the slide, yet increasingly needful of change. Careful change.

* my amendment to Sestak paraphrasing President Kennedy.
** and I don't mean the slippery tubbers(Cf)i.e. link and Ctrl F "tub"
*** Oh and my General(Mills) Eisenhower pun aside,(but not the inversion of the check mark), my theory actually covers the existence of the Democratic Party. I will simply say that since Vietnam there has only been Carter and Clinton while the Carter was not out of the shadow of debt he faced the energy crisis, Clinton failed to transcend the Reagan revolution. I think it hinges on the failure to understand Keynesian economics and the evolution of empires or power period.

[2-15-11 Related Comment on Journalism : Michael Lind makes some very good points about the likes of the Right not deserving as much attention, Rachel Maddow tries to make up for that with Senator McKaskill, but Lawrence O'Donnell illuminates the problem of having reasonable journalistic approaches. On the other hand, Sarah Palin is right that the President is responsible for telling America more, not that some understand the process of getting things on the table. ]
[Also on The Ed Show: Representative Bane Or, not ledership! I would like to defend Dick Cheney though, as I believe that the boos were for the heckler not the former V.P. If Republicans don't want to talk about the Reagan debt, then Obama can leave it off the budget table for them.]

Educat or

Beck:
Keith Olberman brought this to light. My original concern was that Beck was so loose in his grammar or rhetoric that some misinterpretation was almost inescapable(indeed prophetic and not for profit).

It turns out he was even loose with his script. As I transcribed the video from Countdown:
Beck: Jesus conquered death, he wasn’t victimized he chose to give his life, he did have a choice. If he was a victim and this theology was true, then Jesus would have come back from the dead and made the Jews pay for what they did. That’s an abomination.
As his blog scripted it:
This is kind of complex, because Jesus did identify with the victims. But Jesus wasn't a victim, he was a conqueror. Jesus conquered death. He chose to give his life. Jesus didn't come back from the dead and make the Jews pay for what they did. That would have been an abomination.

As a Norman Goldman caller called it: 32:45 to 35:47 or more...
Not that there are soul* interpretations, but there are several that say Judas did pay, in fact possibly to the potter's field.

*floundering mispelling intended

[Speaking of Shakespeare, I must admit to occasional spelling errors myself, but sometimes they are profitic.(Sp!)]
[Thank You CBS: And for refudiating Bush and English while Obama doesn't need a pardon.]
[Not to mention, thank you Sarah Palin for trickling down the language, whild Obama cleans it up, literally.][Not to mention founding words and living constitutions.]

Straight Talk Express?

McCain touts his courage. Well does that translate to leadership? What about his campaign? Is he really leading it? Does he have the courage to stand up (side by side) or not on his own course? Can he face the facts?

Not to mention how can we expect him or whomever is directing the campaign to deal with our enemies, metaphorical button pushers or not, when they can't even tell the direction of an aphorism?

Pretty soon McCain is going to be comparing his scrutiny by the media on this issue to his interrogations as a POW. To put this issue to bed, heads should role. Fire the campaign manager who crafted his ad and his reply.

On Hardball a defender of McCain basically explained the afront. The best she could do was frame it as Obama stepping on Sarah Palin's punchline, when a McCain aide actually wrote a book on it. She even explained that Obama meant McCain was on old fish. Well if that is the case, it is really nice that McCain hid behind Palin in his defense, I mean attack ad. The only come back for this kid (McCain, is he has a wholesale housecleaning and finally changes his crew, not to mention course.)

Of course there may be no need to fire anyone, since he may have doubled down and be risking it all financially.

Arrow of Time

or Symmetry of Inheritance?
Thanks to Keith Olbermann and
FOX News for the
Trifecta of Bad Times.
An end to an error, and the flip-flop of freedom as not a force but a purpose that requires work. There will be no end to humor or force for humility, as it is no longer funny that Comedy Central has more News and more balance. With inspiration I acknowledge the difficulty in laying down the tools of sarcasm and satire, but I will try to remember more than just the hope in this day of transition.

And maybe Biden can even aspire with a nod to Sarah Palin
and even Dick Cheney, to work with congress.
As far as leadership, and OBAMA
the time has come for change.

All in?

I think David Letteman said: "Something is fishy."
And a caller to Rachel Maddow(hosted by David Bender) may have hit the dead fish on the head. McCain wants to avoid having Sarah Palin have a debate. That may be where the media may have taken the bait though. But the public probably won't bite.

The real so called lure in this strategy is that McCain wants to put the economy over his campaign. Well despite recent tugging at the Paulson Plunder, his plans only nibble at a solution, while the economy really is spinning his campaign out of control. OK, fishy metaphors aside, I can't get away from it stinking. The Dead On Arrival plan was a no brainer, not to pass, and the only way to spin this is that the administration has set him up to seem a hero, while congress will look bad for not biting. My suggestion: bite back. Let McCain retreat to work on his plan with the administration, while Democrats and Obama work on a plan with and for the American people.

There are only two choices: Congress doesn't act and the economy is in a fix. Or congress acts and McCain can take credit or cast blame for getting or not getting what he wants. It will be negotiated or not, with or without McCain.

In the end, McCain is the loser because it goes directly against his argument that government is not there to fix things. But in the end, he might be able to prove that they are not. That will make the people the loser, and not really change you can believe in.

Palin Flip-Flop

Where is the change?
Rachell Maddow reports on the "troopergate" cover-up [*].

Sarah Palin is being investigated for abuse of power in her office as Governor of Alaska. A bi-partisan charged committee to which she first promised full cooperation, now faces the McCain CYA forces. (You know what that stands for.)

This is a case where the cover-up is worse than the offense. After all, there may have been no laws broken, but ethics apparently are relative. Ouch! Actually abuse of power is no small matter, but it seems that this could be tricky, as hypocrisy does not seem to raise many concerns. After all, would not most people, wish they could just make it so.

[*] Not to mention Palin popularity being hinged upon energy (another reference to a panel covered-up, think Cheney) but on the irony of the fiscal conservative in regard to the Alaska state budget growth, based on oil prices.

*Huckabee Paul? Which Paul? There is something odd about some of the polling. Democrats of course would love to have the likes of Sarah Palin* [** See ** here] or worse as an opponent for the sake of their candidate, Obama or not. But what would be good for the country? Should one party really be concerned with picking the other's candidate? I am just saying that a Huckabee Paul team may be less bad, and have a more reasonable debate than what Rebulicans might end up with based on the calculus of divide and dilute.[lemon in dilute link is a reference to the movement of liquids(independents/moderates) from one party to the other: a moderate Rebublican would have an uphill battle against a real centrist in that Obama's support is coming from the middle while his policies are supported by more than the left.]

*not that she won't evolve or indeed run from herself (i.e. be a force) Not that this theory applies only to running but maybe to the media there is a three bears comparison of MSNBC, CNN, FOX. My tangent is the persective that for every force there is an equal and opposite reaction, and sometimes it applies to getting information out and the reaction is the point. [A prime example is Palin/Michelle Huckabee and the right to desserts. But Palin is a force that Republicans have a problem running from. But it is earned media or is it. But it is not just all about them or us. My Navigation label needs updating, and the Navigation II label is about our course, or a combination or demonstration of it.

While names are not the thing(and they are coming slowly today), there is value in comparing and contrasting, and sometimes associations matter. Leadership and representation matters, and in journalism there is the ledership which sometimes leads back to my point: our headings, navigation and having to follow for oneself. Part of the spirit of this has been diffused in all seriousness, by the focus on the list and the Bills and Wills, but it is more about the network and bringing things to the table. So while the banner or name for the effort is still pending, as well as more on the principles(The club of association) I will begin listing the inspirations for the columns or sides of the table.

Awkword!

Of course I mean awkward...starting out the post with the lede I did and then editing it as I did. But nothing compared to the prepared response Sarah Palin has. Not to play victim, it is my intent to use less words, but who am I to think more words are any better? Now that might be rhetorical and not dialectic. i.e. I am not yet commenting on Obama's memorial speech.
